X/Twitter Glossary
A shadowban is when X limits your content's visibility without notifying you, making your posts invisible to most users while you can still post normally.
A shadowban (also called a stealth ban or ghost ban) occurs when X's algorithm reduces the reach of your content without any notification. You can still post, reply, and use the platform normally, but your content won't appear in searches, hashtags, or the feeds of people who don't follow you. In severe cases, even your followers might not see your posts. X officially denies using the term 'shadowban' but acknowledges using 'visibility filtering' to limit the reach of accounts that violate their rules or exhibit spam-like behavior.
A shadowban can completely destroy your growth momentum. You might spend hours creating content that nobody sees, wondering why engagement has tanked. Creators often don't realize they're shadowbanned for weeks, wasting valuable time and effort. Understanding shadowbans helps you avoid triggering them and recover quickly if affected.
Poaster's Account Health feature monitors your shadowban status so you can catch issues before they tank your growth.
