X/Twitter Glossary
A quote tweet (now called 'repost with comment' on X) is sharing someone else's post while adding your own commentary above it.
A quote tweet lets you share another user's post while adding your own thoughts, context, or reaction. Unlike a regular retweet (which just amplifies the original), a quote tweet includes your commentary. The original post appears embedded below your comment. Quote tweets are powerful for engaging with others' content, adding value to conversations, or building on someone's idea. They're also used for criticism, jokes, and taking sides in debates.
Quote tweets are a key engagement strategy. They allow you to participate in conversations while keeping your voice front and center. A clever quote tweet on viral content can expose you to the original poster's entire audience. Quote tweets also signal to the algorithm that content is generating discussion, which can boost distribution of both the original and your quote.
